Hi team: thanks for all the encouraging news re use of Zoom. I've used it and/ or SKYPE for a national committee meeting for several years. In addition, I found adding in Coloured cards really helped us in doing so - it was easy for the 'chair/ facilitator' to see who wanted to speak and in which order. And also the 'chat' function of Zoom means you can register your wish to speak and or flag your orange card. We're a bigger group than my group was but I'm sure it can work. If you don't have access to a set of cards, now's your chance to gather some coloured items together to wave at the screen - oranges, zucchinis, sunflowers and ? something blue from around the house - shouldn't be too difficult. We've all shown great adaptability and capacity to think laterally in the past - we can do this again ( and again) as required, I'm sure! Best wishes meantime, sun sort of out and gale yet to arrive. Meeting attendance

Hi All, Just letting you know that I won't be attending UCOL meetings until either * COVID-19 is kept 'under control' i.e. at Alert Level 1 or lower (we will know this within a week or so). Or * An effective vaccine has been developed, and I've received it (could be 3 to 15 months away). Or * COVID-19 runs its course and a level of community/national herd immunity has been established (the worst case scenario - 90% of us contract the virus). While my health is generally good I do have a respiratory injury which makes my survival of a bout of coronavirus questionable to say the least. As I intend to live longer and get more done, I'm self-isolating in an attempt to avoid the virus. So, no more meetings for me. For now. I'm not an expert on video conferencing but I would like to participate in this way if that is possible. So very happy to help out trialling systems to see if this could work for us. Apologies for Mar 26 meeting

Hi All, We were looking forward to being at this week’s meeting but figure it’s “non-essential” travel (and Jetstar has cancelled our flight for us anyway) so to our great disappointment we won’t be making it. Our apologies, yet again, for not being there in person. This may be an occasion for us to try Zoom or Skype to attend remotely, though, particularly if there’s discussion about how work on the site might be affected by any further restrictions on people’s movement. Could be, of course, that the meeting itself doesn’t go ahead. No doubt that will become clear in the next few days. Meanwhile, we hope everyone is staying well. Anthony and Anna

Final notes from 12 March and message about 26 March meeting

Kia ora folks (I thought the literal translation "be well" would make this the most suitable greeting right now) Attached are the notes from our last meeting. We agreed to have another one at NumberWorks'nWords, 90 Crawford St, on 26 March, starting 30 mins earlier than usual to allow ourselves to have a supper break where we can share food and hear from Rosemary and Maurice about their building plans. At the moment Gay and I are planning for this to go ahead as agreed. Rather than "bring a plate" Gay and I will provide a small supper, cups enough for everyone to have a drink. If you're happy with a choice of instant coffee, milo or tea, then you'll be happy because that is already available at NumberWorks.. If you're not happy without real coffee, the please bring along apparatus to make yourself happy. Since Gay and I will be chairing and notetaking respectively, we'll need a volunteer to jump up 5 mins before 8,.30pm scheduled supper to get water boiling. Ideally they will be skilled at making coffee s that everyone is kept happy. I'm sure we can sort anything else out on the night. Hoping to see everyone on Thursday. The rule is no hugs or handshakes, but plenty of smiles and support. Until then I'll share with you the graphic I'm using to stay sane. [image: image.png] All the best Jan

Logan Park students, us & Ucol group

Hi all, as some of you know Maia ( our eldest daughter), she goes to Logan Park and so we wanted to reassure everyone that we are all ok and that she wasn't on the "close contact student list" and that she is also fine. We have however - and also as per the School shutdown of these 3 days - stayed at home and reduced the basic shopping and other things to the absolute minimum. Also thanks for those that have offered help or contacted us for this matter, much appreciated. We will keep you posted of anything new to report if we have to. Stay warm. I shall blame my new pc!! Update for everyone. Wilsons flew allllll the way to Buenos aires, and then flew alllllll way back. Caught out by coronavirus and our cruise was cancelled. With lots of rumours and stories and lots of people trying for seats we got back out of ba before it went into lockdown and arrived back this morning. So we are now in self isolation. Does have some things to commend it. just think of all the things we can sadly be unable to help with....... We have been told we can walk Maggie may empty places so can stick to our routine of our private walks on our beautiful beach! And will continue to keep up with things by email. Question: how did we all manage for something like ucol before we had emails? 20 sets of notes to postl, 20 phone calls about carpets and tiles. Ugh! Regds us
