Hi all,
Another agenda item, and some background information (a report to the
meeting!)
Sally McMillan, the principal of McMillan & Co, the law firm who have acted
for us and in which Helen Davidson used to practise, rang me during the
week.
She confirmed that Helen has left the firm, after some difficulties
including a conviction. She wanted to assure us that we remain a valued
client of McMillan & Co, if we wish to continue using them as our lawyers.
Simon Milne, the partner who …
[View More]does a lot of conveyancing, and Katherine
Neville-Lamb, a solicitor, have both worked extensively with Helen and are
familiar with our files and our project.
So far as Sally knows, Helen is now practising with Anja Klinkert, a
sole-person practice in Hope Street. Sally is not aware that there is any
administrative or secretarial support there.
Looking to the future, there is a lot of legal work that lies ahead of us
at the end of the build, when it comes to unit-titling and the completion
of the purchase process. Sally believes that this will require a large
amount of administrative support as well as lawyers who know what we have
done and what we are wanting to achieve. She believes that McMillan and Co
are well-equipped to provide what we need and would be delighted to
continue to work with us.
I told Sally that I would convey all this to UCOL when we next met. I also
said that I thought that someone from the budget control group will need to
to sit down with McMillan & Co to discuss with them the budget we have set
for the remaining legal work on the project and whether it is realistic -
I don't want to discover as we come to settle that our legal expenses blow
the budget (and the purchase price) out of the water. She encouraged such a
discussion.
See you tomorrow night,
Anne

You are most welcome to inherit this fingerpost from the school to help guests find their way. Or just to incorporate in the landscaping. The kids could no doubt come up with interesting destinations.

Hi all,
An interested person from Auckland, interested in establishing another
cohousing project, is going to be in Dunedin Thursday and Friday this week
and would be interested in meeting with someone from our group. Catherine
could be available after 2pm Friday - is there anyone else interested and
available at some time in those two days?
I will also suggest that he come along on Thursday night to our meeting.
Anne

Hello Anne
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. All sorts going on here that
have been down to the last minute! We will arrive in Dunedin on Wednesday
evening after we complete the rail trail. We will be there Thurs and
Friday, departing Saturday am.
We are at the very early concept stage at this point and also have had
several meetings with Earth Song. Not sure if attending your meeting on
Thursday evening would be appropriate a distraction to your agenda? Hearing
your story would be great though and we could meet at a different time?
Do you have a contact phone / mobile that we could chat to save a lot of
emailing?
Kind regards
Gary

Hi Gary
We would be happy to share some of our experience in the High Street
Cohousing project with you when you are in Dunedin in mid-March.
Because building is underway, we don't have access on to the site, and our
office is now off-site. We have a group meeting on Thursday 14 March ,
7.30-9.30pm, which you would be very welcome to attend.
We could make a time while you are here to meet with 2 or 3 key people,
when we could talk technical details with you. We used and adapted much of
the legal documentation that Earthsong created, and would be happy to talk
with you about how all of that process worked. Then when we did the big
signing of legal documents last year, and particularly the Sale&Purchase
documents at the end of the year, we discovered a lot more about the way
lawyers read these documents.
If you could let me know if there are particular areas in the development
of our project that you are interested in, that could be helpful. Or we can
just begin at the beginning and tell you what happened
When you know your Dunedin dates, let me know and we will work out when we
can meet up. If at all possible, I would recommend you come to our Thursday
evening meeting as well.
Warm regards,
Anne Thomson

Kia ora everyone,
A few points I wanted to share:
- Our website is down. Alex, can you check what happened?
- Nice to see Tim’s Cohohui talk on YouTube: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xD4HKpg7FWU
- About our name & address. Some time ago we talked briefly about the idea of naming our driveway and using it in our address, similar to Heritage View. Has this possibility ever been checked with DCC? It might make sense if we want to keep High Street Cohousing as a name.
Regards
Sander
