1. Re search for an umbrella trust: After chasing another fat rabbit up a blind alley only to have it evaporate, I am recommending establishing an incorporated society to apply for funding for the fence. Above is a guide doing this, or at least making a good start on it before getting a lawyer involved. I hope the main challenge won’t be finding people willing to be officers… This will unlock funding from Otago Community Trust and Lotteries Board. I have no opinion on whether it should (or can) be registered for GST. It can have a termination clause and be wound up when the work is complete.
2. Zeal Steel reports the work on the first section of fence is going to schedule. Also that apart from white paint, some specks of green showed up in sand blasting, so I think we’re on safe grounds asking for it to be painted green.
3. Further recommendation is that a fund application go in to the DCC Heritage Fund for the end of April round, asking for 80% of the costs of refurbishing the arch and attached stretch of fence that is ‘non-domestic’. Andrea Farminer says this will be treated as a quite separate project. While we have only a n estimate, not a quote for that work, it sounds like around $10,000 + GST. So the target for public fundraising would be at least $2000. I don’t think that’s an unreasonable amount to find from the wider community and I’m making a target list of people we might approach to sponsor a name on the memorial.
4. I recommend UCOL members also think about fundraising for the domestic aspect of the fence, most especially the gateways. Warren has sent some ideas for discussion. I don’t think they included working at the stadium. Some of my whanau have just done it for both the Elton John and Queen concerts and said it was quite fun. Paid at $18 hour.
Dunedin Venues in partnership with Red Badge Group can now offer opportunities for committed groups to fundraise while helping to provide awesome experiences at Forsyth Barr Stadium. Working as part of our Awesome Events service, groups including schools, service clubs and community groups are able to work in roles such as ticketing and ushering at some of New Zealand's greatest events.
Everyone involved will be required to complete a Stadium induction which covers areas including expectations, Customer Service, Ticketing and Event Safety.
