Hi folks

Let’s get the bad news over: Zeal Steel didn’t get the scoping project section on Alva Street reinstalled before the close down, though Craig was spotted there measuring up last Wednesday and indicated to a neighbour that reinstallation was imminent.

Now the better news: all relevant people have finally been cornered and a meeting scheduled for Thursday 2 April. Obviously no longer on site, it will have to be on Zoom.
DCC Heritage Adviser Andrea Farminer organised for member of Heritage NZ Incentive Fund Anne Barsby to lead the meeting. (See info re that fund below)
There will also be reps from Southern Heritage Trust — the organisation we’ve been trying to persuade to take us under their wing.
We also anticipate we will finally get a legal opinion from Heritage NZ about how much of the fence is included in the Covenant (the Registration describes it —  to two decimal places— as about 20m long both sides when in fact its more like 50m.) It is deeply disappointing it has been so hard to extract this important information.

Zeal Steel’s breakdown of costs for the various elements of the scoping project are in (all ex-GST):

Big fence post: $2035.80  (there’s nine more to do)      ($18,315)
Fence panel: $1293.40 (roughly 32 more)  ($41,376)
Small post $785  (?15)  ($11,775)
Repurposing a fence panel as two gates: $6198.75 (?9 more new gates)

There are several variables to be thrashed out before that cost for the gates can be projected.

plus 3 existing gates and a few new fence or gate panels and half panels

Lawrie from Zeal Steel has been asked to come to the meeting with suggestions on any way we could reduce these costs — especially the gates.

So by the next UCOL meeting, there should at least be some of the unknown factors better understood.

Cheers
Rosemarie
