Linda Gilbert is going to Skype in to the induction workshop on Saturday - here is her self-introduction.

We will also have Jackie Tagg and hopefully her son, and Karen O'Neill and Rick-the-American friend.
That should make a good number - I'm sorry I won't be there.

Anne

Hello Anne

That all sounds terrific. I’m looking forward to meeting the group that Skype in!

I’ll talk more about my background when I meet you but I’m a qualified lawyer and have just completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts. I’m separated (amicably).

I worked in human rights and social justice and come out of the community law centre movement. These days I’m a painter and work in policy. I also gave my own graphic recording business which is an excellent communication tool. (www.drawntogether.net)

I know quite a few people in Dunedin and lived there for 3 years 2001-2003.

Until we meet over Skype,

Warm wishes
Linda

Hi Linda

It will be good if you can Skype in for the workshop. I will work out whose Skype account we will use and let you know so you can be connected in on 23 Feb.

We are building 24 units, and each unit owner owns shares in the company we set up to develop the project - Urban Cohousing Otepoti Ltd. The architect for the project, Architype, is Tim Ross who will be living there with his family. We have worked together throughout the development, using a group decision making process. We meet often - weekly for the last couple of years, but we are reducing to fortnightly this year, now that the build has begun - and are responsible together for all decisions that need to be made.

You will 'meet' about 8 of us at the workshop. There will be a brief outline of cohousing and the background to our project, we look at the plans we have developed for the units and the common areas, and explain the legal and financial structures and requirements.  Unfortunately we won't be able to share afternoon tea with you in Wellington!

I'll be in touch soon about Skype. Any further questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Warm regards,
Anne

Thank you very much for your reply.

I am in Wellington and unable to get away then so I’d need to skype in.

I have some understanding of the concept but I’ll get the book you recommend out of the library to learn more.

I’m interested in the others participating in the High Street Project. Are you able to tell me who they are?

Nga mihi
Linda

Hi Linda

Thank you in your interest in the High Street Cohousing project. We have begun the build, and expect to be moving into our new homes in the middle of 2020. Currently there is one 2/3 bedroom unit available (priced at $532,072) and another 1-bedroom unit (priced at $346,489) is likely to be available before the completion of the build. Prices for all High Street Cohousing units include the unit itself (unit-titled, built to Passivhaus standard) plus a share in the common land and common facilities on site.

We have a 'stepping in process' for people who wish to buy into the High Street Cohousing neighbourhood, to help them to understand the distinctive cohousing nature of our project and to work through the financial commitments required. the first step in this process is to attend an induction workshop, and we will be holding the next one on Saturday 23 February, 2-4pm. If you are able to get to this, that would be great. We have had people Skype into a n induction workshop quite successfully, so that may be an option for you.

An excellent introduction to what cohousing is about is to read "Creating Cohousing" by McCamant and Durrett, which is available at libraries. We recommend that anyone interested in getting involved reads this book.

If you have further questions or would like to talk to someone about any of this, please email back or give me a contact phone number so that one of us can give you a ring. And if you are able to come to the induction workshop on Saturday week, let me know asap.

Warm regards,
Anne Thomson
