Dear all
Here is another piece of information to consider for our legal representation meeting tomorrow evening.
This was prompted by my asking my brother-in-law - who was a lawyer in Queenstown for the last 20+ years (retired about a year ago) mainly involved with conveyancing - about our situation. He suggested talking with Kiwibank regarding their thoughts of us using a sole-partner firm (as it turns out, from Anne's email it looks like Helen will be a partner with Anja at some stage soon making it a two-partner firm) for the remaining legal work. Stephen Edge's response is below.
Kind regards,
Susan

Hi Susan,
I understand UCOL’s lawyer as moved to another smaller legal practice. In my experience larger multi-unit projects like UCOL require a *team *of experienced professional lawyers to manage the processes needed for multiple property settlements. When settlement time arrives for UCOL there will be a very large amount of legal work needing to be done in a very short period of time. A larger law firm will typically have the resources to draw upon to meet the time demands involved with multiple property settlements all occurring on the same day. To minimise the possibility of problems occurring at settlement time it would be my preference for a larger law firm to handle this work.
Regards

Thanks Susan , this is by far a huge reassurance of my previous thoughts. Also as some people asked and others believe I need in writing send my reasoning, just quickly I will say the following : -lawyers judgements and misconduct, large project and money to be safely managed and trusted , lawyer’s firm and capacity , issue of moving from already a relationship and understanding with actual firm , experience and recognition of firm to managed the tasks to be done, amongst other minor ones . Also thanks hugely to others expressed opinions which also quite clearly outlines the importance of this decision . See you most of you tonight . Maria unfortunately will have to stay with kids , and her view is also very similar to mine . Regards
