Does this need to be added to things to discuss or included with common meals part? Have asked jan but she has nothing to help from her usa experience. Most of the social events we have been to at high st school with ucol have included wine etc. Once common meals start how would this be handled? * Byo? If someone just wants one glass hard to see how they organise taking one glass and having the rest to take home for the next meal. some members won't be able to afford to pay for a bottle and get only one glass each meal. * Pay for drinks? Which could breach laws re having a licence * Have a licence for common house? We were in the fire brigade for years and the whole time there was some sort of discussion going on about this. never resolved. And tbh most brigades are breaking the laws by not having a licence. after something bad we usually stopped at the station for a debrief and, for those who wanted it, a drink. Which was either free, and you don't generally offer a fireperson free drinks, or paid for. with no licence to sell. The same applies to serving soft drinks but no laws involved but eg do children or non drinkers pay extra for meal to cover soft drinks? Regds roz

Hi all, Pene Morris from Roxburgh is keen to know more about what we are doing - she is looking at possible uses for the former Roxburgh Health Camp, and is wanting to know about Cohousing, and Passivhaus design. She will be here on Wednesday and I have suggested that we meet at Alto cafe in Mornington at 1pm and then walk down to the site (or drive, if it's still wet!). When I visited Antony Hamel on Thursday he asked if he could come and speak to us all about the current Dunedin housing market and his take on future trends. He acts for a number of High St cohousers and he knows that many of us are planning to sell our homes before we move into High Street. He said that it would be easier for him to meet us all at once than try to advise us individually. Any cohouser is welcome to attend, and he is not charging anything for his talk, which he estimates will take about 15 minutes. He stressed that if you are thinking of selling a house in Dunedin before the build is complete, you should come to hear what he has to say. 8pm Thursday 5 September. Is anyone already packing and could use, or keep for the future, some sheets of packaging? Tori used professional packers when she came back from oz and still has a heap of the sheets they used to wrap furniture. Sort of paper on one side and thin bubble wrap on the other. Unless we can find someone who can use it we might have to take it to the tip.

Site meeting

Hi all It takes 6 strong men to carry one window!! Things are progressing well. S&W are focusing on the 15 high street units, trying to close in as much as possible. The mains electricity cable has been laid along Alva Street and is sticking out at our entrance. The easement on our neighbours section has been surveyed and it is now up to the plumber to replace the drains. Juan and I met our lawyer Simon Milne on site yesterday and spent 3/4 hour explaining layout and where the 24 units are (15 High, 6 Alva, 3 Common) and all the common areas.
