I’m not sure in the possum population these days but I heard them every night when we stayed on site for a week four years ago and we do know of at least one rat! (Buddy presented us with it. Also for more planting to increase biodiversity, and especially more bird friendly species. And for reduction/ removal of trees that have become so large they significantly impede neighbour’s shade. I have a certain macrocarpa in mind, but there’s plenty of other examples along the belt (upper York Place) to give the impression of more widespread concern. In addition, there will shortly be some interesting news on a proposal by the Dunedin Amenities Society for redevelopment of the old Kaituna bowling and tennis club land down on Serpentine Avenue, It may be announced during the Town Belt Traverse on Sunday 28 April https://dunedin-amenities-society.org.nz/ <https://dunedin-amenities-society.org.nz/> and will certainly improve the neighbourhood. Things got super busy, and I let a few emails slip by. I’m wondering if it might make more sense for the students to do a site visit and hear from a combination of you, Tim Ross and/or others? I have a couple afternoons (15 May from 1-5pm, and 22 May 1-5pm) reserved for site visits later this semester, but I haven’t yet organised the details. I have 63 students this semester; we just did site visits to their project site on Wakari Road, and it worked well to stream them into two groups of about 30 each. So if you and others associated with the High Street Cohousing group are keen, then I could imagine bringing one group of students to the site from 1:30-3:00pm, then another group from 3:30-5:00pm. Perhaps the format could be something along the lines of what Dan Windwood and I experienced during our visit to the site as DCC employees a few years ago? We sat through a brief PowerPoint presentation which gave us an overview of the project, then had some time for discussion and a guided walk around the site. What do you think? I’m also organising another lecture series outside of Otago Uni, which I’m going to reach out to Tim about, FYI. It’s an exciting project you’re a part of and nice for people to learn about it. This idea sprang from the reference to 'unsold' units in the minutes. We have expanded on our original idea and have asked to have this added to the to do list. Please think about it before it comes up for discussion. How to we handle changes of ownership/occupancy? Know we have previously talked about unit owners putting tenants in their units, this takes it further. * Letting units * Swapping units eg for holidays * Putting in a house sitter while owner away * Gifting unit to someone else * Bequeathing unit * Change in relationship leading to change in occupants Some of these things we can handle with some sort of selection/induction/commitment but what if we leave our unit to our grandson? Who I have just found out loves heavy metal, who'd a thunk??? Regds roz
