kitchen pledges

Hi, last night we made a pledge towards kitchen costs. Have now been told the request was made earlier than intended and the maths have yet to be worked out. We don't want to leave the pledge out there in the circumstances so are withdrawing our offer. Do the maths, work out the options and we will look at our offer again. Regds roz and michael

Tena koutou Agenda for tomorrow night's UCOL meeting is below. This is a very full agenda and we will want to be disciplined and focussed to ensure that we get through it. I will endeavour to ensure that there are paper copies available of each document. An outreach group has been set up with members Gay, Kristin, Jess, Rosemarie, Claire, Anne and Anthony and sees as its priorities: - The regular scheduling of induction days with a view to ensuring occupants can be found without delay for units being let or sold. - Setting dates sometime in August or September for an official opening and a neighbourhood open day. - Meantime, the ODT and Kiwibank have been given names of cohousers (Juan and Maria for an ODT news story and Tim for an ODT feature; Alex for Kiwibank) who are happy to speak to reporters about our having moved in. We prefer the idea of a new kitchen. For second hand we would want to know what costs might be duplicated in buying and installing anything second hand and planning to replace with new later. We would make available $2500. Not sure if this would be a loan or a gift. Regds roz and michael

The original idea behind loans from residents for a kitchen was based on straight maths, at that stage we had a quote from southern hospitality plus estimates of the cost of everything else we would need down to tables and chairs and tea spoons. The total was approx. $60 000. There are 24 units. So approx. $2500 per unit. But I always knew not everyone would want or be able to help out so it was just a starting point for discussions. options for moving ahead with the common-house kitchen

Hi everyone The new oven and range hood have arrived (and are already paid for) andit has been suggested that we install them as soon as possible or we installthe whole kitchen as soon as possible. The kitchen group has looked at a rangeof options and puts forward two options here; we recommend option b. option a) find money and install full all-new kitchen now (~$35,000). option b) find money and install full kitchen with some second-handitems now (~$20,000-$30,000?). Items such as the second commercial oven, steelbenches for the vege preparation, the fridge and freezer might be second handor new, depending on the funding available and other considerations. We will need extra money to achieve option a,and most likely even to achieve option b (says Alex). The most straight forward way is to raise the extramoney between ourselves. Could the Toiora communitymembers please let us know whether they are able to make gifts or loans to getthe kitchen finished, and how much you want to contribute. We needconcrete pledges now to enable us to move forward on the kitchen. Ourability to achieve option A or to get closer to a fully equipped new kitchenwill depend on the amounts contributed. If you are able toprovide a figure, that would be most helpful. If you are able to provide a loan, or you wish to give a giftconfidentially, please let Francis or Gay know. This will be briefly presented to the meeting on Thursday 24th. Options for loan repayment will be developed and presented at the next meeting. Jeffrey

Energy Studies - Monitoring Research Project Meeting

Hi All, Further to my email this morning (which I sent in error) I realised that we have a busy Thursday ahead (shared meal + Meeting). So I propose to postpone the University meeting to next week: *Thursday 1 July at 6:30pm at the common house. * Michael Jack (Head of Energy Studies - Physics Department) will explain the research project. The ideal of the meeting is to provide information. It would be good if most of us are present to understand the aims, methodology and timeline of the research and ask any relevant questions.
