Flagging neighbourhood relations especially parking as topic to be addressed

Hi folks I’ve just had a forceful earful from someone associated with a property across Alva street who I approached about my suggestion of extending the angle parking plan. It’s been a reminder that there’s still people in the neighbourhood unhappy about the redevelopment of the school site, and while some of their grievances are irrational (as aired at the Resource Consent hearings) concerns over parking are legitimate. However these also become a vehicle (ha ha) for all that other stuff. I suggest a small group meet and plan neighbourhood liaison, including a letterbox drop in the very near future explaining what’s happening with parking, and inviting anyone who wants to participate to consultation on an informal agreement. Like ‘you stick to your side of the street and we will stick to ours’. Maybe. We need to all play nicely, but it would also be good for neighbourhood relations in general to announce everyone’s arrival, not just leave it to The Star. Neighbours certainly need a contact person too. Just as a heads up for starters, Josie, who I talked to yesterday, is property manager for her mother, Margie, who owns the big arts and crafts mansion, and the green brick house next to it. They let rooms, and Josie gets miffed (to put it mildly) if anyone else parks outside those properties. I gather from her list of complaints and opinions that she is already known. The main problem is that she and Margie were overseas at the time of the Resource Consent notification, which of course is neither the fault of the DCC nor UCOL, but Josie believes the process was faulty. So beware! I never know how to handle someone like this, whether to listen mildly and let it blow through, or to tell them they’re out of line and stop berating me over something that’s a) all done and dusted, and b) not my fault. And despite feeling so strongly about lack of parking, she adamantly rejected my suggestion of extending angle parking to create more spaces, so I guess that’s the end of that idea. On the other hand, Damian, who rents the garage for his Landrover repair business, (which he also conducts on the street) is exceptionally friendly and recognises he might have to modify his parking habits. I think it will be helpful for everyone to learn the names of near neighbours, though I’m sure we’re all friendly to everyone who comes by, including the dog walkers and the man who sleeps in his car. (He parks up Montpellier when he’s there.) All good fun, Rosemarie

Moving in before code compliance

Hi Everyone, Further to the question of moving into our units before the project’s been issued with a code-compliance certificate, there seems to be a well-trodden route to that interim step. A friend who was in the same position signed the attached agreement issued under the Building Act. You’ll read in the Information for Purchasers below the document title that it does mention a few things that need to be considered before signing relating to such matters as insurance and finance. I'm presuming that in our case the agreement would be with Ucol as the "commercial on-seller”. I’m not quite sure how we would go about doing this, but Ucol’s lawyer would no doubt have some advice—for a price! Regards, Anthony

re planning for moving in to Toiora

Hi team: I have offered to create a spread sheet around moving dates for our move into Toiora. a)As part of this, I understand that two households will have to move the day we settle as the ownership of their houses changes that day. Those people are Sander and Karen and Sue Taylor. If there is anyone else in that position, please let me know. b) It seems likely we can stagger the move over several days, provided we can coordinate moving companies etc. To that end, can you each advise me if a) you are using a moving company and if so, who, and b) if you are moving yourself. This is relevant as moving companies almost never deliver over the weekend, while the weekend might suit those who are 'self moving' and enable us to even better stagger traffic. c) Re entry: the C Units and H units can move in from High street, and the Alva Units from Alva St. The D units will also move in from Alva street. Meantime, Sara and Gay can use the Montpellier street car park. That means it's possible that only Roz and Mike's tenants will need to use our in ground car park for the move. Exciting to be planning for the ACTUAL move at last!! I'll hear from each of you. The outcome will be summarized on a spreadsheet and put on google docs once I learn how to do this! Hi folks, they're really draft because I started them really late at night and finished them off this morning rushing to get into work. I realise I was so slack that I didn't even take a list of names of people present so that was done from memory! Please send me all the corrections. I did want to get them out this morning because we have a busy weekend: *Sunday 10am at Rainer and Marianne's place, 21 Falcon Street *some strong people are needed to help shift the sauna (already in sections each weighing about 100kg) onto the trailer and then again at Toiora a short time later to move it into the storage shed. *Induction starts 10.30am Saturday* (but people always arrive really early, wanting to talk to cohousers before it starts so it would be wonderful if some of us could aim to be there before 10.15am). I have the key and coloured cards so I'll be there by 9.45am to let anyone in. *Shared lunch at 12.30am with workshop to start at 1.30pm* See you all again soon! Jan
