Letterboxes v delivery boxes

Hello all I’ve a vague memory that when I was living in Blenheim someone was designing a letterbox for all households but can’t remember details. Yesterday I was listening to a radio programme about courier delivery and hearing that traditional letterboxes don’t accommodate deliveries very well. Which makes me wonder if we should be considering our letterbox brief. I’m sure I am typical in that I get very little traditional, stamped, letters in an envelope in my current, traditional letterbox. But given events of last few weeks and potential for similar restrictions in the future, we need to “future proof” our delivery system. Rather than having individual letterboxes, one single, big collection box might be better, properly locked, possibly refrigerated, etc - and then contents distributed or collected internally. What I’m saying is that the whole delivery thing has changed. It is no longer about letters, it is about deliveries - often perishables. Could we discuss this at our next meeting please? Working bee confirmed for tomorrow 23/May 9:30am

Hi all, We had a great site meeting today. Things are progressing nicely, a couple of photos to follow. A reminder that we have agreed to have working bee tomorrow. Day: Saturday 23 Time: 9:30 to midday I can confirm that there is enough to clear between fences along the perimeter and we can proceed with the demolition of the concrete box in Alva St. A reminder that as we are in alert LEVEL 2, groups of maximum 10 people are allowed to work together. So we'll organise a couple of groups if there are more than 10 people. Please bring safety gear/tools if you have some. site meeting 22.5.2020

Hi All a quick few notes on the first site meeting in two month. Everyone is in a good spirit and work is progressing well. As you can see from Maria’s photos, they poured the concrete for the distribution board this morning. The supply cable from the road is already poking out in the middle of it. Site works have progressed a lot, S&W is taking the opportunity to do it now, as the weather is very settled. The last windows for A6 will be installed next week! The scaffold for the first 3 units (C1 to C3) and end wall is coming down on Monday. The painters will paint the inside of D1 on Monday!!!! At the contractors meeting, Wrens asked about when and who would do the final paint jobs in the units. They expressed interest to get those contracts. I have asked them to give us quotes for each unit types for both the woodwork (doors and architraves) and the walls. We may be able to give them individually the job and they may be able to do it now?, subject to S&W approval. If we instruct them now we may have to go through a private variation process. so much for today Rainer Please call me if you need an urgent reply. Christchurch to Sydney and Renting out our Toiora unit

Hi everyone! Greetings from Christchurch! Hope you are all keeping nice and warm. It has been incredibly cold and frosty up here, and something no one really talks about is how windy it gets in Christchurch. It sometimes feels like we are in Wellington! Anyway, I email with some updates for everyone regarding our situation that has changed. *Update on our move to Sydney* Just prior to the level 4 lockdown, I was offered a research scholarship in Sydney. This came about unexpectedly through my previous supervisor in Dunedin. With Covid-19 and the uncertainty we have all been through, I didn't think the scholarship would actually eventuate. However, now we are a few more weeks on, the research group have confirmed they would still like to have me and to start when they had originally planned -- in July -- if possible. Given the rare opportunity that found me, I have decided to accept it. Adelyn and I have put in our resignations here and spent the last 2 weeks trying to figure out another move. The main difficulty has been trying to navigate the travel restrictions, and we are preparing ourselves to be quarantined for 2 weeks if the trans-Tasman bubble has not merged by the time we travel. *Update on our unit in Toiora * With our move to Sydney, we won't be returning to Dunedin at the end of this year as planned. So we have also gone through the different options we have with our unit. Our preference is to rent our High St unit out when it is completed, and we will be planning for that. However, there is a chance that we might have to sell the unit if we are unable to find tenants keen on cohousing or are unable obtain finance to settle on the unit once it is completed. As the last thing we want to do is hold up everyone's settlement, we are likely to look at selling around October if rental and/or mortgage arrangements don't work out. I have checked and there are people on the waiting list keen for our D unit type, so there hopefully shouldn't be trouble there. To save on the hassle of paperwork for UCOL, we will also probably just hold on to our loan guarantees with Kiwibank until settlement where the new owner can come in. I guess we will have to work out the details as we go, but as mentioned, our preference would be to continue being part of the community with our unit rented out for now. Anyway, I will continue to keep everyone updated on how we go. At the moment, we are just trying to take things one step at a time. It would be nice if I didn't have to take up an advert in the newspaper to get in touch with Air NZ as well! Warm regards, Dennis
